Duties Description for GSI Roles: Leadership and Personal Development is a 3-credit undergraduate course that challenges students to explore their prior leadership experiences and current values, and then to envision and develop their emerging leadership qualities in alignment with these values. Ideally, GSIs for this position will possess several qualities. There is an emphasis on weekly reflective journals, each containing several prompts requiring the students to examine and express themselves honestly. GSIs provide written feedback on student journals, and hence candidates should demonstrate their own prior experience with self-reflection. This includes an ability to receive and learn from critical feedback. Additionally, qualified candidates will demonstrate prior experience in formal or informal mentorship roles, and a tendency to take interest in the development of others. GSI attendance in weekly lectures and student labs is required.

Using a combination of instructor-led discussion, readings, and guest speakers, this interdisciplinary course traces the arc of climate past, present and future on the pillars of politics, finance, and infrastructure (both physical and institutional), using California policy and practice as a lens and case study. The bulk of the course will focus on translating the sometimes-esoteric world of climate change into direct policy and business practice. Key topics: risk management and disclosure, carbon accounting in the public and private sectors, public financing, the role of local and regional governments in climate and land use policy, delivering climate-smart mega projects, and designing policy and financial systems to support a "just transition" for communities and local economies. The final sessions will consider the future; how the next generation of leaders might solve the greatest challenge of our time.

The Reader will work in team formation and interaction, as a chief of staff for the fund. The Reader will assist with Investment Memo grading, but also assist teams with questions on sourcing, diligence, and preparation of materials. No particular background is required, but private markets experience or coursework is helpful.
